EOS joined the EU-funded MAT-H2 consortium to support research into materials and manufacturing methods for hydrogen-based energy systems. The company will contribute its metal powder bed fusion expertise alongside partners including Teknos, Bumax, SSAB, Wärtsilä, VTT and the University of Oulu.

The consortium is studying how metals, coatings and manufacturing processes behave during long-term hydrogen exposure, with particular attention to strength, reliability and material degradation. EOS will support material characterization, application-driven development and additive manufacturing, while also contributing to work connected with Wärtsilä’s WISE initiative for hydrogen power systems and energy production.

For manufacturers and energy operators, additive manufacturing could enable complex components designed specifically for demanding hydrogen environments while shortening development and testing cycles. EOS’ involvement reflects growing interest in using metal 3D printing to support future hydrogen infrastructure and high-performance industrial components.
